Selby Golf Club
Currently undergoing the creation of a new driving range and 3-hole short course to enhance practice opportunities and elevate the club's practice experience.
Project Overview
Client: Selby Golf Club
Architect: Ken Moodie
Finisher: John Greasley Ltd
The work at Selby Golf Club is currently underway, focusing on the creation of a brand-new driving range and 3-hole short course. This development will completely revamp the club’s practice facility, offering members and players a variety of practice options. Whether fine-tuning swings on the driving range or honing chipping and putting skills on the 3-hole short course, these enhancements aim to elevate the practice experience for all.
The
Challenge
Selby Golf Club faced a lack of modern practice facilities, limiting the options available to members and visitors. The existing site required a significant upgrade to meet the demands of today’s golfers, with no driving range or short game areas in place. Additionally, the project needed to address land use efficiently while adhering to strict environmental guidelines and incorporating sustainable practices into the construction process.

Our
Approach
Our team partnered with Selby Golf Club and Jonathan Gaunt to develop an innovative practice facility design that meets the club’s aspirations and enhances member experience. By integrating a 300-yard driving range with target greens and a 3-hole short course featuring multiple teeing areas, the new facilities cater to golfers of all skill levels.
A strong emphasis on sustainability shaped the project approach, incorporating a soil importation scheme using materials from local developments. This not only reduced environmental impact but also allowed for cost-effective land shaping and preparation.

Our
Process
Phase 1 – Working with Jonathan Gaunt to design new the facilities to enhance functionality and the golfer experience. Our team secured planning permission for all elements, including golf features, access, and infrastructure, incorporating a sustainable Materials Management Plan for soil reuse.
Phase 2 – Soil importation is underway, with materials carefully tested to meet environmental standards. The land is being shaped to create the driving range and short course foundation, aligned with the approved design.
Phase 3 – Base shaping continues with a focus on refining features like target greens, teeing areas, and the 3-hole layout, creating a dynamic and engaging practice facility.
Phase 4 – The final stage will include seeding & finishing works. A grow-in period will ensure optimal grass conditions ready for practice use.

It has been absolutely seamless. We knew what was happening and when it was happening, which was fantastic.
