Manchester Golf Club
We created a cutting-edge 300-yard driving range and dedicated short game area, overcoming challenges and incorporating advanced driving range technology to deliver a state-of-the-art practice facility for the golf club.
Project Overview
Client: Manchester Golf Club
Architect: Jonathan Gaunt
Finisher: C&C Golfscapes
Manchester Golf Club’s practice facilities underwent a transformative redevelopment, featuring a 300-yard driving range equipped with the latest TrackMan technology and a dedicated short game area. The redesign addressed long-standing drainage issues and incorporated improved site infrastructure, including enhanced access and additional parking. This modernisation not only elevated the club’s practice experience but also created a facility that appeals to golfers of all abilities, setting a new standard for performance and functionality.
The
Challenge
Manchester Golf Club faced several significant challenges that needed addressing to transform their practice facilities into a modern, functional space. The existing driving range suffered from poor drainage, making it unusable during wet weather and preventing ball collection. This limitation meant the practice facilities fell short of matching the high standards of the golf course itself and couldn’t be used year round.
Additionally, the club operated within a restricted budget, adding complexity to the development. Infrastructure issues further compounded the challenges, including a narrow, single-lane entrance, lack of nearby parking for the driving range, and outdated storage bays for materials. These obstacles required innovative solutions to deliver a facility that aligned with the club’s vision whilst meeting practical and financial constraints.

Our
Approach
Working closely with Jonathan Gaunt of Gaunt Golf Design, we brought Manchester Golf Club’s vision to life by creating a state-of-the-art 300-yard driving range and dedicated short-game practice facility, elevating the club’s practice amenities to match its high-quality course.
Sustainability was central to the project, with responsibly sourced soils from local construction sites used to reduce landfill waste while forming the new facilities’ foundations. Advanced drainage systems were also installed to ensure playability in all weather.
Infrastructure upgrades included widening the main entrance for better access, constructing concrete material bays, and assisting in the development of a high-end car park to improve convenience for members and visitors.
Booth Golf & Leisure provided innovative funding solutions, enabling the project to stay within budget while delivering exceptional results.

Our Process
Phase 1 – Collaborating with Jonathan Gaunt of Gaunt Golf Design, we finalised the design and secured all approvals, navigating the planning and environmental process and ensuring sustainable practices like soil importation from local construction projects.
Phase 2 – After approvals, we tested local construction soils to meet environmental and quality standards, minimising waste and reducing landfill impact.
Phase 3 – We shaped the 300-yard driving range and short game area, focusing on functionality, aesthetics, and drainage improvements to ensure playability in all weather. C&C Golfscapes handled finishing works with top-quality turf and greens.
Phase 4 – We improved the site’s infrastructure with widened access, new concrete bays, and a high-end car park, all funded by Booth Golf & Leisure to ensure timely, budget-friendly completion.

We highly recommend Booth Golf & Leisure to other golf clubs as an excellent partner.
